Excerpta Medica joins Omincom to support Red Cross in Japan earthquake/tsunami relief efforts
03/18/2011
The devastating earthquake and subsequent Pacific tsunami that struck Japan last week have left millions of people in need. In addition to the lives lost and severe damage from earthquakes, fires, and floods, 5 million households are without electricity and 1 million without water. Estimates suggest that more than 500,000 people have been evacuated or displaced.
Omnicom has made a call to its employees/companies to support the Japanese Red Cross Society (an organization that has dispatched 95 response teams and mobile medical clinics to the most severely affected areas) in its humanitarian efforts. In the days following the disaster Excerpta Medica made a donation to support aid workers in the affected areas; in addition to this, a number of employees – some of whom have family, friends, and colleagues living and working in the region – have made personal donations to the relief fund.
